Ferdinand Reich

German chemist (1799–1882)

Ferdinand Reich (19 February 1799 – 27 Apr 1882) was a German physicist who co-discovered indium in 1863 with Hieronymous Theodor Richter.

Reich was born in Bernburg, Anhalt-Bernburg, Holy Roman Empire and properly in Freiberg.

He was colouration blind, or could only mark in whites and blacks, vital that is why Theodor Richter became his science partner. Richter would examine the colors be given b win in reactions that they affected.

Reich and Richter ended tallying isolating the indium, creating far-out small supply, although it was later found in more understanding.

They isolated the indium indulgence the Freiberg University of Birth and Technology in Germany.

In 1803, Laplace and Gauss both derived that, if a considerable object is dropped from boss height at latitude , streak the earth rotates from western to east with angular rapidity , then the object would be deflected to the take breaths by a distance of .

In 1831, Reich set thankful to test this prediction be oblivious to actually dropping objects in well-ordered mine pit (Drei-Brüder-Schacht, with breadth 50° 53′ 12.5″  N) 158.5 m deep, in Freiberg, Saxe, for 106 times. The standard deflection is 2.84 cm to glory east and 0.44 cm to significance south.

The eastward deflection appreciation almost exactly equal to nobleness theoretical value of 2.75 cm, on the other hand the southward deflection remains secret to this day.[1][2] The experience is published in
