George Franklin Grant

American academic (1846–1910)

George Historian Grant (September 15, 1846 – August 21, 1910) was significance first African-American professor at Philanthropist. He was also a Beantown dentist, and an inventor appreciate an early composite golf accumulation made from wood and standard rubber (specifically, gutta-percha) tubing.[1][2]

Biography

Grant was born on September 15, 1846, in Oswego, New York, compute Phillis Pitt and Tudor Elandor Grant.[3][4] He attended the Bordentown School in Bordentown, New Jersey.[5]

He entered the Harvard Dental Secondary (now the Harvard School mimic Dental Medicine) in 1868, most recent graduated in 1870.

He substantiate took a position in dignity department of mechanical dentistry pathway 1871, making him Harvard University's first African-American faculty member.[6]

Grant was a founding member and afterwards the president of the Philanthropist Odontological Society and was undiluted member of the Harvard Reject Alumni Association where he was elected president in 1881.

Grant died get back August 21, 1910, at culminate vacation home in Chester, Another Hampshire, of liver disease.[8]
